Sainsbury's School Games Award

A huge congratulations to Mr Nash, all the pupils and staff who have been involved in all of the sporting events run by the school this year.

I am very proud to announce we have just had confirmation of achieving the Gold Kitemark for the Sainsbury's School Games Awards. This involves; hosting and attending a range of sporting competitions as well as showing inclusivity in sport. We have also ensured that a variety of activities, which develop sports and fitness, take place within the curriculum and after school.

Our plaque will hopefully arrive before the end of term. Well done!

Orienteering Triumph!

On Wednesday 1st July, Mr Nash took our very own Sheffield orienteering champions (Y3/4 girls and Y5/6 girls) to the South Yorkshire finals at Clifton Park. The children competed against fellow winners from Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley and performed magnificently at a very difficult course.

During the sweltering heat and brief thunderstorm, the children remained unfazed and the Y5/6 girls managed to secure 5th place, which is a terrific achievement, especially given the fact that several teams did not even complete the course because it was so challenging!

Later in the day the Y3/4 girls produced a fine display of map reading skills and long-distance running and they battled their way to a second placed finish! This resulted in them receiving a silver medal for their achievements and they can now proudly state that they are not only the best team in Sheffield, they are also the second best orienteering team in South Yorkshire! Well done girls!

Road to Rio

On Friday 19th June, Y4 took part in an Olympic and Paralympic celebration at Outwood Secondary School whereby 30 children represented Stradbroke in a range of sports events against our local rivals Woodhouse West, Intake and Woodthorpe.

Y5/6 Cricket League

Currently we are awaiting the final results and league table but we have performed fantastically this year and improved hugely on last years performances.

We have annihilated our local rivals Athelstan (90 runs to 55) and Brook House (83 runs to 54) but unfortunately we lost to Mosborough in our final game.

Swimming to success with 4 time Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds

On Wednesday 17th June, several children were selected from Y5/6 to take part in a special swimming lesson at Ponds Forge with Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds.

Our school was chosen to represent Sheffield because of it's excellent participation in P.E. competitions this year.

Y3-6 Tri-Golf competition

On Tuesday 16th June, we took part in a city-wide golf competition at Tinsley Park Golf Club.

After several sterling displays we amanaged to finish 3rd and win a bronze medal, narrowly missing out on qualification for the South Yorkshire Finals.

Another fantastic achievement for our school!

Y3/4 Drax Cricket competition

On Tuesday 2nd June, children from Y3/4 competed in the Drax Cricket competition at Hollinsend Cricket Club.

After some terrific performances with both bat and ball Stradbroke qualified for the 3rd place playoff after coming second in our group. Unfortunately, however, we lost to Bradway as they were able to adapt better to the gale force winds which swept through Hollinsend!

Y5/6 Tag Rugby

On Tuesday 19th May, children from Y5/6 competed in the Sheffield Tag-Rugby finals at Mosborough Rugby club.

With some dominant performances in our group, we comfortably qualified for the quarter-finals and then went on to reach the semi-finals where we lost but managed to pick ourselves up for a 3rd place finish, and a bronze medal!

Two-time Sheffield Orienteering Champions!

On Thursday 21st May, children from Y3-6 competed in the Sheffield Finals at Stradbroke Primary School and once again, in a similar manner to last year, we dominated the field.

  • Y3/4 Girls managed to come 1st and are now Sheffield champions and have qualified for the South Yorkshire Finals in July.
  • Y3/4 Boys came 5th.
  • Y5/6 Girls came 1st and 3rd, meaning again we are the Sheffield champions and we have qualified for the South Yorkshire Finals.
  • Y5/6 Boys came 3rd and 4th, just missing out on qualification.
