Year 1 2020/21

Welcome to Year 1!

This year we have lots of fun and exciting topics and trips to look forward to and we cannot wait to get started!

The Teachers in Year One are: Miss Hastings and Miss Wilkinson.

The Teaching Assistants are: Ms Reade, Mrs Clarke and Mrs Roberts (Wednesdays).

P.E: Our PE days are Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure that PE kits are brought in on Monday so the children are properly prepared for both lessons. At times, we may go outside for PE, a warm jacket or jumper may be beneficial during the colder temperatures. Please ensure that all PE kit is labelled clearly with your child's name.

Although we try to make sure kit goes home with the right child, this is sometimes a struggle and misplaced kit can be located in the lost property boxes at the coat pegs.

Homework: Home Learning menus are given out at the start of every half term highlighting activities and projects the children can complete based on their current topic. These are optional and not all tasks need to be completed. Children will have the opportunity to share their learning with their peers in mini-class assemblies or virtual zoom calls with other classes.

PPA: Our PPA is on a Monday afternoon. During this time children will be taught by Mrs Robinson who covers Philosophy for Children and Mr McCaroll who covers P.E.

Summer 1 : Pirates

Ahoy me mateys!

Our Topic in the Summer Term will be based around 'Pirates'. As part of our Geography learning we will sail around 7 continents and compare them with the United Kingdom. As Artists we will create our own piece of artwork using the technique of collage and share these in a virtual gallery.

Furthermore, as Scientists, we will design our own garden and identify different parts of a flower. In addition to this, we will put our chef's hats on and create some tasty, exotic fruit kebabs which we will enjoy on our pirate day.

Please have a look at our home-learning menu for ideas of activities you may wish to complete at home.

As part of our Topic we will be delving into the past and comparing past and present emergency services. As artists, children will take inspiration from artists around the world and create their own piece of artwork by paper weaving.

As scientists, children will investigate and explore the properties of materials and consider their suitability for emergency services professionals. As musicians, children will innovate a familiar song and perform it to Year 2 via Zoom. Throughout, all of our lessons we will promote positive values such as being kind and working collaboratively.
