Year 2 2018/19

Welcome to Year 2!

This year we have lots of fun and exciting topics and trips to look forward to and we cannot wait to get started!

The teachers in Year Two are:

  • Miss King
  • Miss Hastings

The Teaching Assistants are:

  • Mrs Stagg
  • Miss Harrison
  • Miss McGregor

P.E: Our PE days are Thursday and Friday. Please ensure that PE kits are brought in on Monday so the children are properly prepared for both lessons. At times we may go outside for PE, a warm jacket or jumper may be beneficial during the colder temperatures. Please ensure that all PE kit is labelled clearly with your child's name.

Although we try to make sure kit goes home with the right child, this is sometimes a struggle and misplaced kit can be located in the lost property boxes at the coat pegs.

Homework: Home Learning menus are given out at the start of every half term highlighting activities and projects the children can complete based on their current topic. These are optional and not all tasks need to be completed. Children will have the opportunity to share their learning with the rest of KS1 in a Merit Assembly on Friday afternoon. All projects will be displayed in the corridor outside of the Year Two classrooms for parents to enjoy.

PPA: Our PPA is on a Wednesday afternoon. During this time children will be taught by Mrs Robinson who covers Philosophy for Children and Mrs Humphries who covers Computing. On a Friday, Miss Miss King for Management time will be covered by Mr McCaroll and Mrs Shutt.

Y2 Summer Term - Field to Fork

During the summer term, we are going to be exploring where our food comes from in our topic 'Field to Fork'.

First, we are going to explore what different plants and animals need to survive and live healthily. We are also expecting an exciting visit from Zoolab, who have planned a fantastic morning where we will get to meet different animals and learn all about food chains.

We are going to be exploring our local area to see what wildlife we can find and we will be creating our own maps to help us get around.

Y2 Spring Term - Explorers!

For our next topic, we are going to become explorers on a voyage to learn new things about our planet. To begin with, we will hop between continents and investigate the different geographical features of each place. We will then look at some of Britain's most famous explorers and discover more about the places they visited and the animals that live there.

We will be visiting the Yorkshire Wildlife Park to learn more about animals and their habitats, with a special visit to Victor the Polar Bear. Linked to this, we will be creating art work and composing music inspired by the animals that we meet.

Y2 Autumn Term - Snap, Crackle and Pop!

Kicking off the year we will be exploring life in Tudor London and learning about the Great Fire of London. Starting our journey we will investigate the life of a fire fighter and discover what it takes to become a modern hero.

Travelling back in time, we will identify the causes of the Great Fire and its impact on the life of the people of London. We have lots of trips to look forward to starting with a visit to Sheffield City Centre Fire Station to meet real life fire fighters. Then we will get stuck in and create our own pizzas at a local Pizza Express. Finally children will design and make their very own bread product with the support of Warburtons who will be visiting Year Two in school.
