Year 4 2018/19

Welcome to Year 4!

I'm sure you are dying to meet our Year 4 team ...

Firstly, we have Miss Kruzynska, who had the pleasure of working with the year group last year. Next, we welcome a new member of staff in the form of Mr Hawkes! He is very incredibly enthusiastic and creative and is looking forward to his first year at Stradbroke.

Joining these lucky teachers, we have the coaching superstar Mr McCarroll and the lovely Miss Hale, who have both worked with the year group previously. Together, they are sure to be a strong team aiding the Year 4s to excel throughout the year.

Just a reminder:
PE for Year 4 will be held on a Thursday afternoon so please remember your PE kits!

Year 4 have been provided with a fantastic opportunity, where the children will take part in brass lessons which will be held at the school on Wednesday afternoons.

Spring Term

In Y4, as part of our RISK topic, we are kick starting the new term by visiting Murton Park, to immerse ourselves into the Viking era. During this fantastic adventure back in time, the children will have the opportunity to wear Viking style clothes, whilst taking part in several activities including becoming villagers of a Dark Ages settlement.

As Historians this term we will be investigating sources and suggesting causes and consequences as to how and why the Vikings/Saxons invaded and conquered Britain. We will also be investigating how and why the British Empire expanded across the world.

As artists we will be evaluating a variety of collages from the different time periods, and we will be copying and applying our skills in order to create our own artwork. The children will then have the opportunity to hold an art exhibition for Year 5, to showcase their fantastic creations.

Our #moments will also include 'the great British bake off' where the children will make and test their very own Saxon, Viking and futuristic bread. We will also have fantastic links to the entire curriculum and I am sure the children will be filled with excitement and curiosity as they learn about what life was like during these different time periods.

After reading about our enthralling topic, just a reminder to parents/guardians that P.E will still be taking place each Thursday afternoon. The children will also continue to be involved in Brass lessons which will take place on a Wednesday afternoon.

Autumn Term

In Y4 this year, we are kick starting the new term by breaking into Ancient Egyptian pyramids as tomb raiders before trying to escape the curse of the mummy! Here we will be learning about life in Ancient Egypt, its ancient civilisation and the significance it had on the world. We also have exciting links to the entire curriculum and I am sure the children will be filled with awe and wonder as they learn about pharaohs, gods, slavery and the magnificence of the River Nile.
